Graduate Academic Assistant position, Critical Studies in Sexuality

The Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice (GRSJ) has a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) position available in 2014 – 2015 academic year:

Term: September 1st 2014 – April 30th 2015 (32 weeks)

Hours: 10 hrs/week (full-time appointment)

Salary: $25 / hrs for doctoral students; $23 / hrs for master students

Description

The incumbent will work with the CSIS Chair (Dr. Janice Stewart), members of the CSIS Steering Committee, and other GAAs to coordinate and facilitate campus-wide lectures, seminars, workshops, retreats and other events. Working with the CSIS Chair, the GAA will also be asked to participate in other CSIS related activities.

CSIS GAA Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain contact with CSIS Chair and GAAs to facilitate events as outlined above and to implement these events.
  • Implement all tasks and responsibilities relative to event coordination and planning under the direction of the CSIS Chair, including contact with speakers, event booking, refreshment organization, postering and all related tasks.
  • Maintains and updates the CSIS website pages.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Applicants are expected to have strong communication skills, be well organized and possess a strong interest in contributing to transdisciplinarity, the welfare of undergraduate and graduate students and the CSIS academic community. Preference should be given to applicants with experience and interest in:

  • Issues of and commitment to participation in, and advancement of, scholarship in the area of Critical Studies of Sexuality.
  • The coordination and promotion of graduate and undergraduate student issues and events.
  • Knowledge of the UBC (and other) sexuality and gender communities.
  • Professional networking.
  • Networked multimedia productivity for events coordination.
  • Networked social media literacy for website updating
