Research Project Director Position at the Hampton Roads Center, George Washington University

The George Washington University (GW) Graduate School of Education and Human Development seeks an outstanding Research Project Director.  Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the Education Facilities Clearinghouse (EFC) collects and disseminates research and other information on effective practices regarding the planning, design, financing, procurement, construction, improvement, operation, and maintenance of safe, healthy, and high-performing facilities for elementary and secondary schools.

Envisioned by our first President and created by an Act of Congress in 1821, GW is now the largest institution of higher education in the nation’s capital. The University offers comprehensive programs of undergraduate and graduate liberal arts study as well as degrees in medicine, public health, law, engineering, education, business, and international affairs. Each year, GW enrolls a diverse population of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all 50-states, the District of Columbia, and more than 20 countries. The George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) is ranked 11th among private institutions by the U.S. News and World Report among graduate schools of education.

Against this backdrop, the proposed clearinghouse activities will address the four EFC requirements of the U.S. Department of Education: (1) Create a website; (2) Track and compile best practices; (3) Provide technical assistance; and (4) Provide training and professional development services.

Position. The grant director and senior leadership team seek a research project director for the EFC based on an annual contract, renewable for two years based on funding.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarship and research of the EFC, actively help shape the direction of the EFC, provide technical assistance in his/her academic area, supervise clerical and assistants, and manage and monitor the everyday proceedings of the EFC.

Basic Qualifications. All applicants must have:

  • An earned Masters degree or higher in Education, Leadership, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related field;
  • A minimum 7 years experience in public schools and/or education facilities services or relative experience;
  • Demonstrated ability and capacity to conduct training and provide technical activities in areas related to education facilities, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED); to students’ well being; and, to safety and security;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and supervise research activities;
  • Employed current technology for webcasting, online services, training, and technical assistance; and,
  • Administered successfully a project or program requiring staff supervision, budgeting, report writing, service/product delivery, and customer relations.
