CHES Jr Faculty Recruitment Notice

The Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) at The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor, grant tenure track. The position is based in Vancouver, BC, but involves interaction with faculty and trainees at all of the Faculty of Medicine’s regional sites.
The incumbent will develop and manage their own research program, seek salary awards and funding for research studies, and foster research collaborations with various internal and external parties. In addition, he/she will provide support to trainees working to develop their own knowledge and skill in health professional education. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational missions at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, as well as to make academic service contributions.
The successful candidate will have a PhD and a record of accomplishment that demonstrates excellence in research and potential for excellence in teaching. Experience in a health professional context would be useful to this position. Areas of special interest within the Faculty of Medicine include distributed medical education, competency assessment, use of technology in teaching and learning, simulation, communication in healthcare, and program evaluation. The successful candidate will complement and extend the expertise of current CHES faculty. Special attention will be given to those personal qualities that support and stimulate the growth and development of health professional education research across educational programs. The incumbent will be an outstanding junior researcher who will likely have trained in a social science discipline with applicability to health professional education. Candidates with research interests and skills in any area of relevance to contemporary health professions education research are encouraged to apply, but we will prioritize those with expertise using qualitative research methodologies.
An appointment in a relevant academic department in the Faculty of Medicine will be identified at the time a successful candidate is selected. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2014 or upon a date to be mutually agreed.
