Associate Professor Counselling Psychology – Simon Fraser University

Tenure-track Associate Professor position at SFU (Faculty of Education) for contribution to the teaching of any of the core counselling courses and support of graduate student research. Candidates will contribute to the growth of the Counselling Psychology program at the SFU Surrey campus. The program includes the SFU Surrey Counselling Centre, which works in collaboration with the Surrey School Board. Along with clinical training, the Centre supports research in counselling practice and supervision.

Role requirements: Applicants will be expected to teach and develop counselling related courses and programming at both the undergraduate and graduate level, work with pre-practicum and practicum students, and to supervise graduate research.
Requirements documents: must possess a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology or related field, the ability to develop a program of research related to Counselling Psychology, and a minimum of three years of counselling practice experience in the field. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to three or more of the key teaching areas of the program including:

  • Theories and ethics of counselling
  • Counselling skills and strategies
  • Group counselling
  • Career counselling
  • School counselling (K-12)
  • Family counselling
  • Expertise and experience in counselling Aboriginal people and/or counselling in multicultural contexts are significant assets for this position.
