A colloquium on Harry Potter – “Harry Potter, Brands of Magic” includes speakers Darren Dahl from the Sauder School of Business, Kevin McNeilly from the Department of English, Jamie Broadhurst from Raincoast Books (Rowling’s Canadian publisher), Phyllis Simon from Vancouver Kidsbooks, and Judi Saltman, Professor, SLAIS. The colloquium will take place on Thursday, October 29, from 12.30pm-2pm on the 9th floor of the Henry Angus Building.
The UBC Library will have three exhibitions at different libraries (David Lam, Koerner, and Barber’s Riddington Room) throughout October. The exhibits will include first editions and memorabilia from the publisher Raincoast, bookseller Kidsbooks, printer, Electronic Arts that worked on the film and video games, UBC Quidditch team, and UBC connections with Harry Potter (including links to MACL faculty, such as Judy Brown, and theses of MACL students), among others.
Harry Potter Costume party is on Hallowe’en and takes place in Barber, Dodson room on Friday, October 30, at 1pm-3pm. The event is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required to attend. Tickets are collected at Rare Books and Special Collections, 1st floor of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm. Tickets are extremely limited, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
