Graduate Teaching Assistant – UBC Early Childhood Education/OGPR

Early Childhood Education (ECE)/ Office of Graduate programs and Research (OGPR) has an opportunity for a part-time Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) appointment in the Vancouver Summer Program for Summer 2015.

Dates of instruction: July 20 – August 13, 2015

We are seeking one GTA with expertise in early childhood education for a non-credit course in the UBC Vancouver Summer Program vancouversummerprogram.ubc.ca/.

ECE/OGPR, in partnership with the Institute in Early Childhood Education and Research (IECER), is offering non-credit courses in the Vancouver Summer Program, including: one section of Designing High Quality Programs in Early Childhood Settings (brief descriptions can be found here: http://pdce.educ.ubc.ca/vancouver-summer-program/, click on “Education Package C”). This course is based on ECED 405, but is not the same, and will require course development in collaboration with ECE faculty in addition to teaching.

Applicants must have: a minimum of a recognized master’s degree in ECE or a related field, with relevant academic expertise in early childhood education. Experience teaching English as an additional/second language is also preferred, as well as having a good understanding of the needs of international students (primarily from China), as well as a working knowledge of Mandarin. Experience in ECE teacher education is desired.

Duties include: collaborating with faculty members in developing and teaching the courses, holding regular office hours, marking assignments, assigning grades.
