MSFHR Health Policy Fellowship

Sponsor: Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research

The MSFHR Health Policy Fellowship is a salary award for post-doctoral fellows involved in health research who are interested in preparing for careers in a variety of health research and research user roles. Fellows undertake short-term (six to 12 months) policy assignments via placements within the BC Ministry of Health (MoH) or at one of the province’s health authorities. These placements may be separate from or complementary to a fellow’s current academic research.

Value: The fellowship provides up to one year of salary support at $45,000 per annum, prorated as required depending on the length of the policy assignment. A one-time allowance of up to $5,000 is available to help defray the costs of relocation, and, if permitted by the policy assignment supervisor, to defray costs for attendance at science or health policy conferences or meetings.

Value: The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1,270,000. The maximum amount per grant varies by Institute/Initiative but will not exceed $25,000 and is for up to one (1) year.

Note: This funding opportunity is not intended to support the direct cost of research (e.g., pilot projects, feasibility studies or operating grants), principal and co-investigator salaries or research equipment. Please also note that primary research or primary data collection will not be supported through this funding opportunity. Any activity that may be perceived as such should be justified (e.g., surveying individuals for the purpose of the project).

Value: Yidan Prize Laureate receives a gold medal and a total of HK$30 million (US$3.9 million) including a cash prize of HK$15 million (US$1.9 million) and a project fund of HK$15 million.

Details: With a vision to make the world a better place, the Yidan Prize reaches out to the world to give recognition to individuals with outstanding accomplishments in education research and development. This annual award aims to empower change makers in education, build a global community of education leaders and, ultimately, create long-lasting, enlightening impacts on humankind as a whole.

Only 2 awards globally. May be awarded to individuals or to teams of up to three people.

Established in 2016 as the world’s biggest education awards, the inaugural prizes will be given in 2017 in two categories:

  • Yidan Prize for Education Research, recognizing outstanding research that contributes in significant ways to education
  • Yidan Prize for Education Development, recognizing innovative ideas that tackle important challenges in the field of education
