Intake 2 Timeline

Expressions of Interest Deadline (March 6).
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are due to the VPRI by Friday, March 6. Units are encouraged to identify and internally contact potential candidates in advance of submission. Please feel free to contact these potential applicants. Applicants may submit their EOI here.
VPRI Sharing of EOIs with Faculties (March 9).
EOIs will be shared beginning March 9. Beginning March 9, the VPRI will circulate submitted EOIs. At this stage, Faculties may view the EOIs and assess alignment, as well as consult internally to determine which applicants will be invited to proceed to the conferral meeting. We will use the same OneDrive folder system for viewing of the EOIs.
Additional members to view the EOIs and cvs can be readily accommodated. Please send along as many names as you would like to Robert Olaj for access. Robert Olaj will supply confidentiality forms to anyone who has not previously signed the agreement. (Note that all applications and cv materials from intake 1 must be expunged by any holders of them by June 01, 2026). While not all EOIs need to be ranked, it is anticipated that units forward at least 1 candidate, where warranted. Please note that joint appointments may be possible. ORE can assist with making connections to other units/ faculties, or members of other faculties may be contacted independently.
Innovation Forms (2-pagers) and ranking explanations for Conferral (Thursday, April 02, 12 Noon).
Forms are completed by units in consultation with candidates. The Innovation Forms (or 2-pagers forms) are only for candidates that have achieved a ranking in your units. These forms and candidate rank orders (1 for top-ranked) are due within the respective unit OneDrive folders. Rank orders may be uploaded via Word documents to the OneDrive folder.
Access to the Innovation Forms (2-pagers) may be found on our webpage under Resources. If a unit has a candidate from the first round that they would like to be reconsidered, they will need to resubmit their Innovation Form into the folder. Please consult with Dr. Samia Khan if you have a candidate from intake 1 being reconsidered.
Save the Date: Conferral Meeting
The Canada Impact+ Research Chairs Conferral Meeting (Intake 2) will take place on:
Tuesday, April 7, 2026
This meeting will bring together Heads and Directors to confer on unit nominations, discuss rankings where applicable, and collectively review the strategic positioning of candidates to be forwarded to the next stage of the competition. The Dean will be in attendance. In the interim, ORE will be circulating calendar holds for the following time blocks:
Save the times: 10:00 – 11:30 AM AND 1:30 – 3:00 PM
If you are unable to attend, we kindly request that a Deputy Head or other senior delegate attend on behalf of your unit to ensure full participation in the discussion and decision-making process. It is expected that our discussion will include explication of the rankings and features of the candidates under consideration.
Faculty Decisions (Tuesday April 07- Thursday April 09). After the conferral meeting, a decision will be made, at the discretion of the Dean, which Innovation Forms (2 pagers) to forward to the University's nominations committee. Further feedback will be provided to units on these selected files, if appropriate, until April 17, 2025.
Units Upload Final Innovation Forms & CVs to OneDrive (April 17). Relevant units must upload Innovation Forms and candidate CVs for the selected candidates to OneDrive by April 17. ORE will begin to upload finalized Innovation Forms (2 pagers) for selected candidates to the UBCApply system (which are due by April 20). There will be a single committee at the university level to review all files.
University Communication of Results (First week of May).
Outcomes will be communicated during the first week of May. VPRI will then work with selected nominees to forward their applications for a national review.
Internal Registration Deadline (June 8).
Selected nominees must complete the internal registration requirements by June 8.
Internal Deadline for Full Applications (June 22).
The internal deadline for submission of full applications is June 22.
ORE will continue to support units throughout each stage of this process, including facilitating potential joint appointments or inter-faculty collaborations where appropriate. The relevant website workflows are updated to reflect these revised Intake 2 dates and procedural details. Click here for the workflow and resource materials. ORE is available to support units fully in reviewing materials or facilitating access.
Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards – Postdoctoral Fellowships (Intake 1)
Click in the tab to view detailed information

CIRTA aims to recognize and support international researchers at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels by providing high-quality training opportunities in priority fields. The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards will provide 600 doctoral scholarships and 400 postdoctoral research awards through the Canada Research Training Awards Suite. Nomination forms and guidelines for the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (both graduate and postdoctoral) have now been made available here (CWL Protected): https://faculty-staff.grad.ubc.ca/administration/award-administration. The updated official forms request information necessary for the internal selection process including a description of the research and how it aligns with priority research areas.
G+PS will review nominations for eligibility and completeness and submit UBC's nominations to the Tri-Agencies on 4 March 2026.
If you are interested in nominating a postdoctoral candidate, please complete the form found here: https://faculty-staff.grad.ubc.ca/administration/award-administration (Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards – Nomination form, CWL-Protected) and submit it, along with the candidate’s CV, to Nandini Maharaj in ORE by Tuesday February 10.
Supervisors submitting more than one candidate for consideration should append a separate page rank ordering their candidates. The nominator form collects information about prospective candidates that will aid the internal selection of the sole candidate the Faculty is permitted to advance to the University. An internal committee will be struck to select the successful nominee and Faculty nominators will be informed of the outcome of the selection process and then work with the candidate to submit the nomination dossier (details TBA) to G&PS, who will then submit the file to Ottawa. There will be no University-level assessment of nominations.
We encourage interested nominators to check G&PS’ CIRTA postdoctoral fellows website periodically for updates on program requirements. Eligibility requirements for both faculty nominators and nominees, along with a program FAQ, are available here on the federal CIRTA website.
