Eli Puterman
Health Psychology; Stress Resiliency; Physical Activity Interventions; Life Course Adversity; Cellular Aging;
Dr. Eli Puterman studies how adversity experienced across the lifespan – starting in childhood all the way through older adulthood – accelerates the aging of our immune system and impacts psychological stress reactivity. Using interventions, laboratory-based stress manipulations and ambulatory assessments, Dr. Puterman’s research is aimed to develop tailored activity-based interventions with novel targets, including immune system aging and biological and psychological stress resiliency.
Reginald D’Silva
Integrating technology in language and literacy contexts;
Reginald D’Silva has a multidisciplinary background in engineering, computer science and the social sciences. His PhD research focused on the use of voice recognition software programs in developing literacy skills in post-secondary English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners. He currently is the Academic Director of the UBC Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange programs where he is involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning of language and content courses.

Application deadlines:
- Monday July 20th: OGPR internal review and feedback (optional). Email Robert Olaj a PDF of your proposal.
- Noon Wednesday July 29th: OGPR internal signature deadline. Email Robert Olaj a PDF of the proposal with a completed, signed and scanned ORS Research Project Information Form.
- Thursday July 30th: Robert Olaj in the OGPR will email your PDF application and signed RPIF to ORS on your behalf.
- Monday August 3rd: SSHRC national deadline (next subsequent round Nov. 1).
Special notes: Note: August 3 is B.C. Day but it is not a national (i.e. SSHRC) holiday.
Additional support in the form of cash and /or in kind contributions (excluding registration fees) equivalent to a minimum of 50 per cent of the amount requested from SSHRC must come from other sources, such as sponsors. Applicants/project directors or Co-Applicants on any project funded through a SSHRC Connection Grant that is still active are not eligible to apply for an individual Connection Grant. Co-Applicants for Connections Grants (only) may be from non-academic organizations.

- Nov 18: Email Dawn Whitworth your draft proposal (with full budget; without support letters) for mandatory UBC Internal Selection Committee review and Robert Olaj for OGPR mandatory internal review and feedback. Also, email Beth Haverkamp, with copy to Robert Olaj, a completed Faculty Partnership Information Questionnaire.
- Dec 15: Comments supplied from the Internal Selection Committee and the OGPR
- Jan (mid): Internal support letters provided by SPARC
- Feb 10: OGPR deadline for faculty-level signature. Email Robert Olaj a copy of your application and completed RPIF.
- Feb 11: ORS deadline for RPIF and institutional sign-off.
- Feb 15: SSHRC Partnership Grant LOI deadline
Special notes:
- This is a highly time consuming and complex institutional (i.e. UBC is the applicant – not the researcher) grant to coordinate between many internal and external constituent groups. Resource contributions from your Department and the Faculty are critical and take time to negotiate. Please contact Robert Olaj in the OGPR as early as possible if you are thinking of applying for a PG or if you are considering being a Co-Applicant on a PG. 35% cash and/or in-kind contributions (http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/policies-politiques/cash_inkind-especes_en_nature-eng.aspx) required. Projects must fall under SSHRC’s Subject Matter Eligibility Guidelines.
