Insight Grants

Sponsor: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Application deadlines:

  • August 1: Registration for SPARC Insight Grant Internal Review (highly recommended).
  • August 15: Deadline (mandatory) to submit online SSHRC’s Notice of Intent to apply.
  • August 25: Deadline (optional) to submit your proposal to Robert Olaj in the OGPR & Danica Kell at SPARC for internal review.
    Full proposals include:

    • MS Word versions of all required and optional attachments
    • A system-generated PDF of the application (includes Summary, Budget, Response to Previous Critiques, CV, etc.)
  • October 8: Deadline to submit application and Research Project Information Form to OGPR for administrative review (completeness, signatures and budget commitments only) and to secure Faculty RPIF sign-off (all faculty except those in KIN).
  • October 10: Deadline to submit application online and for OGPR to provide UBC/ORS with your completed RPIF and a copy of your proposal.
  • October 15: SSHRC national deadline.

Special notes: Applicants must file a Notice of Intent via the online forms system by August 15, 2014. Projects must fall under SSHRC’s Subject Matter Eligibility Guidelines.
Instructions for securing internal signatures and e-submission to ORS will be announced closer to the deadline.

Knowledge Synthesis Grant: Fall 2014 Competition

Sponsor: Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Science, Knowledge Translation and Ethics Branch

Application deadlines:

  • November 13: OGPR deadline for faculty-level signature.
  • November 14: ORS deadline for institutional signature & e-approval
  • November 17: CIHR national deadline

Special notes: For your application to be eligible, it must include at least two project leaders: one independent researcher and one knowledge user. CIHR strongly recommends that each team include a content expert, an expert in synthesis methods and an information scientist/librarian. Applications are submitted via ResearchNet and electronically approved and submitted to CIHR by ORS on behalf of the applicant.

Operating Grant: Knowledge to Action (2014-2015)

Small Research Grants in Areas of Inquiry

Application deadlines:

  • August 22: OGPR deadline for faculty-level signature.
  • August 25: ORS deadline for institutional review and signature.
  • August 28: Spencer foundation deadline (4 pm CST).

Special Notes: The Spencer Foundation specifies that budgets of less than $50,000 may not include indirect costs. If you are considering applying please contact Heather Frost.

Planning and Dissemination Grants – Institute Community Support (Summer 2014 Competition)

Connections Grants

  • July 29: Deadline to submit application and RPIF to OGPR for completeness review (only) and Faculty signature.
  • July 30: Deadline to submit online your application to ORS.
  • August 1: SSHRC national deadline (next rounds: Nov. 1, Feb. 1, May 1).

Special notes: See above for requisite 50% matching requirement. Applicants/project directors or Co-Applicants on any project funded through a SSHRC Connection Grant that is still active are not eligible to apply for an individual Connection Grant. Co-Applicants for Connections Grants (only) may be from non-academic organizations.
