Value: Yidan Prize Laureate receives a gold medal and a total of HK$30 million (US$3.9 million) including a cash prize of HK$15 million (US$1.9 million) and a project fund of HK$15 million.
Details: With a vision to make the world a better place, the Yidan Prize reaches out to the world to give recognition to individuals with outstanding accomplishments in education research and development. This annual award aims to empower change makers in education, build a global community of education leaders and, ultimately, create long-lasting, enlightening impacts on humankind as a whole.
Only 2 awards globally. May be awarded to individuals or to teams of up to three people.
Established in 2016 as the world’s biggest education awards, the inaugural prizes will be given in 2017 in two categories:
- Yidan Prize for Education Research, recognizing outstanding research that contributes in significant ways to education
- Yidan Prize for Education Development, recognizing innovative ideas that tackle important challenges in the field of education

CATE Award for Excellence in Research in Teacher Education

Internal Review (IR) and Nomination deadline:
- Feb 18: Email Robert Olaj to alert him that you are interested in nominating someone, or having yourself nominated for this award.
ORS deadline to hit “Submit” online and email ORS your RPIF and the PDF of your application.
- Mar 18: CATE submission deadline.
Special notes: Candidates do not need to be CATE members, but must be nominated by a member of CATE. The application must include two additional letters of recommendation from people associated with at least one other institution. However, these people do not need to be CATE members.
SSHRC Impact Awards

Internal Review (IR) and Nominations deadlines:
- Feb 5: Deadline to alert the OGPR about a potential nomination.
- Feb 18: Deadline for the Faculty to submit to the VPRI a 500 word summary on why the individual or team should be considered for this award (please review SSHRC’s selection criteria when writing the 500-word rationale). An updated SSHRC CV must also be submitted.
- Apr 5: SSHRC deadline.

Special notes:
- Applicants for the 2016 IDG competition will be ineligible to apply to the October 2016 Insight Grant Competition, even if applicants are unsuccessful in the 2016 IDG competition.
- SSHRC has developed a new online application portal called the Research Portal and the IDGs are the first SSHRC program to use the new system. Applicants must submit an online application, as well as a Canadian Common CV. Co-Applicants must submit a Canadian Common CV, but Collaborators do not (new this year). Please allow a generous amount of time to complete your and your team member’s CCVs (80-100 hours each, from scratch).
- Requests for equipment must follow SSHRC’s new Guidelines for Support of Tools.
