Description: Please be advised of the following updates for the NSERC CREATE competition following the information session last week. A copy of the slide deck is on SPARC’s resources page (CWL required) if you are interested.
- Regular and International stream applicants
- The VPRI letter of support is for administrative purposes only and should not include support details. Deadlines remain the same – please contact SPARC by April 1 to coordinate a VPRI letter of support.
- Updated template letter of support is available on SPARC’s resources page (CWL required), or email vivienne.chan@ubc.ca to obtain a copy.
- Genomics Call (NEW; this year only)
- UBC can submit two (2) LOIs to a new Genomics call of the NSERC CREATE competition, which are outside of UBC’s allotment and will proceed automatically to the full application stage. These are separate from the regular stream, where UBC can submit unlimited LOIs and NSERC will select the top 4 to move to the full application.
- To identify these 2 Genomics LOIs from UBC, there will be an internal selection process. See details here. Brief timeline:

The internal LOI will consist of the following elements (essentially the same as the LOI that will need to be submitted to NSERC):
- Internal Cover Page
- Outline of Training Program (3 pages)
- Excellence of Proposed Team (3 pages)
- Applicant’s Form 100
