Announcing the Formal Closure of the Centre for the Study of Teacher Education

The Centre for the Study of Teacher Education (CSTE) will formally close at the conclusion of 2022.  CSTE was created in 1982 at a time when studying teacher education was in its infancy.  For example, it wasn’t until 1992 that AERA formally recognized teacher education as a field of study when it launched ‘Division K: Teaching and Teacher Education.’  Nowadays, the study of teacher education is pursued within and across all departments in the Faculty of Education.  In short, the study of teacher education is now well established and pursued by many faculty members in their respective domains. Further, the closure of CSTE comes at a time when other initiatives require both financial and physical resources within the faculty, in much the same way that the study of teacher education required in 1982.  We wish to thank all those who have been involved in and have contributed to CSTE during its 40 years at UBC.
