Description: In January of this year, the federal research funding agencies―the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council(NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council(SSHRC), released their What We Heard report which reflected what partners shared and provided the foundations for the elaboration of this policy. The Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizen and Membership Affiliation establishes a process for affirming Indigenous citizenship or membership and policy compliance. This policy was created to ensure that federally funded research programs, funding opportunities, and/or appointments intended for Indigenous people are held by Indigenous people.
