Value: $7,000 to $500,000. 3 to 4 years

Objectives:

  • To support research proposed by scholars and judged worthy of funding by their peers and/or other experts
  • To provide opportunities for the training of future researchers
  • To contribute to the advancement of theory and/or methodology
  • To support disciplinary and multidisciplinary research activities
  • To promote knowledge mobilization within and beyond the academic community

Application deadlines:

  • Monday July 27th: Register for SPARC Internal Review. Optional. Email your request to register to Danica Kell
  • Monday August 3rd: SPARC IR: Email Danica Kell in SPARC your 1 pg. summary
  • Wednesday August 12th: SPARC IR: Email Danica Kell in SPARC your full draft. Please copy Robert Olaj if you are interested in OGPR IR (Optional).
    • Attach:
      • 1) MS Word versions of all required and optional attachments.
      • 2) A system-generated PDF of the application (includes Summary, Budget, Response to Previous Critiques, CV, etc.)
  • Monday August 24th: OGPR IR (Optional). Email full draft for OGPR IR to Robert Olaj (for those not participating in SPARC IR).
    • Attach:
      • 1) MS Word versions of all required and optional attachments.
      • 2) A system-generated PDF of the application (includes Summary, Budget, Response to Previous Critiques, CV, etc.)
  • Sunday August 30th: Receive SPARC IR reviewer feedback.
  • Tuesday September 8th: OGPR Insight Intensive workshop: Working on summary & budget in groups.
  • Wednesday September 23rd: Receive OGPR IR feedback.
  • 10:00 a.m. Thursday October 8th: Submit application and completed RPIF to Robert Olaj in the OGPR for Faculty-level signature (all faculty, except those in KIN) and for administrative review only (completeness, signatures and budget commitments).
  • 4:00 p.m. Friday October 9th: UBC ORS deadline for you to hit “Submit” online and for the OGPR to provide UBC/ORS with your completed RPIF and a copy of your proposal

Special notes:

  • A Notice of Intent stage has been eliminated. Canadian Common CV will not be used for this competition. Collaborators will receive an invitation to complete a “profile” (not a whole SSHRC CV). Projects must fall under SSHRC’s Subject Matter Eligibility Guidelines. A reminder that applicants who applied to the 2015 Insight Development Grants are not eligible for the fall 2015 Insight Grants competition, irrespective of the outcomes of the IDG competition.
