There is an increasing orthodoxy about research on “practice” as strategy of change in contemporary school and teacher education reform. As a strategy of change, the studies of practice, Professor Popkewitz argues, are impractical. Ironically, “practice” is a theory about what is desired in the future based on principles of stability and consensus that conserves existing frameworks. Its hope for the future embodies simultaneous fears of the dangers and dangerous populations.
