UBC Research Awards and Prizes

Program Link: https://prizes.research.ubc.ca/vpri-faculty-research-award-opportunities

Sponsor: UBC VP Research and Innovation

Value: Varies across awards and prizes

Description: UBC recognizes individual investigators who demonstrate excellence in research through a suite of annual research awards and fellowships that span all disciplines in the applied sciences, medicine, and social sciences and humanities.

Summary of changes in 2022:

  • The Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship and Killam Faculty Research Fellowship have new optional sections on Contextual Perspective (to provide understanding of the context of career trajectory or field of research) and Research Impact (to account for wide variations in the impacts of research across different disciplines, as well as in the indicators used to measure them).
  • Many award components have requested word limits rather than page limits.
  • There is a single nomination form for all awards, rather than a separate form for each one.

These awards have two nomination stages:

  1. Expression of Intent (EOI) due Thursday, September 15, 2022, 11:59 pm. This optional stage assists in planning and nominations can still be submitted if the EOI deadline is missed. Note: EOI not requested for Killam Accelerator Research Fellowships given the required Faculty-led nomination process.

  2. Full Nomination due Tuesday, November 15, 2022, 11:59 pm. All required components must be submitted through the nomination form, and Killam Faculty Research Fellowship referee letters must be received by ORPA.
