Melanie Janzen

Current Position: Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) Assistant Professor, University of Manitoba

My PhD research explored what it means to be and become a teacher in an era of mandated, standardized curriculum. It considered the ways in which teachers experience and understand teacher “becoming”, their relationship with curriculum, and their responsibility to education. Receiving UBC PhD Tuition Fee Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships, and a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, greatly contributed to my success at UBC. I am currently an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba, working on a SSHRC-funded project (with co-researcher Dr. Phelan, UBC) that is exploring teachers’ experiences of the emotional toll of obligation.
