Congratulations to Our Successful UBC Research Award Winners!

Congratulations to Dr. Shelley Hymel, Professor in ECPS, for being awarded a 2015 UBC Killam Research Prize in the Senior Scholar, Arts & Humanities category. Up to ten prizes in the amount of $5,000 each are awarded annually to full-time faculty members in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions. Five prizes are awarded for scholarly activity associated with NSERC and CIHR, and five for work associated with SSHRC and the Canada Council. At least one prize is awarded in each category to junior scholars.

In addition to celebrating this important recognition of Dr. Hymel’s outstanding career accomplishments, we acknowledge the team of ECPS faculty that collaborated on the development and submission of Dr. Hymel’s successful nomination: Drs. Jennifer Vadeboncoeur, Kim Schonert-Reichl, Deb Butler, Nancy Perry, Laurie Ford, Jenna Shapka and Barbara Weber.

Congratulations also to Dr. George Belliveau, Professor in LLED for being awarded UBC’s 2015 Sam Black Award for Education and Development in the Visual and Performing Arts.

This biennial award pays tribute to legendary UBC figure Sam Black, a well-known artist and educator whose 41-year association with UBC began in 1958 as a professor of Fine Arts and Art Education. This award recognizes faculty who have made outstanding education and development contributions to (and performances in) art, music, creative writing, theatre or film; and outstanding scholarship in the fine and creative arts. This award consists of a certificate and prize in the amount of $1,000.

We also acknowledge the efforts of Dr. Belliveau’s Faculty nominators, Dr. Carl Leggo (LLED) and Dr. Rita Irwin (EDCP), for developing and putting forward Dr. Belliveau’s successful nomination.

Congratulations to you both for these richly deserved awards!
