Sponsor: Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)

Description: Message from CIHR: We are writing to inform you that the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) will not launch any new competitions of the Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) program.

Existing CHRP grants will continue with no change in funding levels or duration.

The decision to sunset any program is one that is not taken lightly; however, revisiting existing programs and ensuring they still meet their objectives and deliver value for money is part of the program evaluation process. We recently evaluated the CHRP program and we will take the lessons learned from that evaluation to strengthen our tri-agency funding programs and peer review processes regarding interdisciplinary research.

In addition, the interdisciplinary and translational research funding landscape in Canada has evolved, with new options for supporting this type of research that did not exist when the CHRP program was created.

We invite you to read the full message on CIHR’s website. CIHR will be happy to discuss this further at the upcoming University Delegates Network meeting on March 3, 2022 and in the meantime, if you have any questions please reach out to CIHR at support-soutien@cihr-irsc.gc.ca or 1-888-603-4178.
