Sponsor: Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Description: Message from CIHR: We are pleased to introduce our new External Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Systemic Ableism. Forming this committee gives CIHR an opportunity to learn from people with lived experience and expertise as we try to make our organization more equitable, diverse, and inclusive. The committee will help CIHR identify barriers and make recommendations to CIHR on ways to prevent and remove barriers faced by persons with disabilities when it comes to accessing research funding. Ultimately, the committee will help CIHR co-develop an action plan with the goal of eliminating systemic ableism in the health research funding system.

We want to thank all committee members for dedicating their time and expertise to help us get this important work right.

We invite you to visit our webpage about accessibility and addressing systemic ableism to learn more about the advisory committee and to access resources and read researcher profiles. In the near future, we will also be sharing updates about CIHR’s plans to work with the wider research community towards ending systemic ableism in Canada’s health research funding system including opportunities to get involved.
