Graduate Academic Assistant Position

A Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) position is available to provide research and administrative support for a flexible learning project. The project focus is the development of flexible learning resources to enable faculty to employ and evaluate flexible learning techniques in our undergraduate curriculum.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain the project plan, and facilitate the project steering committee meetings as required
• Coordinate and implement the Project Plan
• Track all project activities
• Develop, and provide for the Steering committee progress reports for each project milestone.
• Collaborate with the PI and Curriculum Associate for the project to keep the project on budget and be sure all invoices are promptly issued and paid.
• Report on the project process and any issues with regard to the project to the Steering committee
• Work with the Steering committee to assist in the development of the online resources
• Draft interim and final reports for steering committee suggestions
• Revise reports for Steering Committee approval and submission
• Disseminate reports
• Coordinate team activities and supervise RA/developer work
• Collect and participate in data analysis
• Assist with the preparation of reports, and manuscripts
• Other duties as assigned by the principal researcher and team

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must be/have:
• Currently enrolled in a graduate program at UBC
• Self-directed and willing to take initiative in relation to carrying out assigned tasks
• Have some previous project administrative experience
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet deadlines
• Understanding of curriculum and instructional design, adult learning, teaching methods in higher education, and e-learning technologies.
• Good information technology skills

The successful applicant will preferably have:
• Background in education, instructional/media design, or nursing education
• Experience in undertaking research or participation in a research team
• Educational technology skills
• Experience in developing content for online learning or leading e-learning projects.
• Completed Research Ethics Tri Council Research Ethics 2 Core Certification

• Proficiency in MS Word, Power Point, Excel, and use of online resources
• Demonstrated effective organizational ability;

Position Type:  Casual (<15 hrs/wk OR <5 days total)

Wages: $18 – $25/hour
