Objectives:
The New Civics:
- Funds research projects that aim to increase quantity of civic action, quality of young actors’ deliberations and participation (particularly to learn skills, knowledge, attitudes, dispositions);
- understanding pathways to civic action for young people from diverse political, social and economic backgrounds by employing action, quality, and equality.
Philosophy in Education Policy and Practice:
- Funds research projects in philosophy regarding policy and practice.
- Potential areas include: proper content of moral education, place of religion in schools; curriculum content; competing conceptions of equality in educational resources/outcomes; commercialization of schools and childhoods; obligations to students with special educational needs; content of sex education and ‘education for living’; moral rights of students to privacy, freedom of expression, association; rights of teachers with respect to abusive/violent children.
